Our Mission

Our mission is to rescue dogs and cats in the southern Illinois region from neglect, abuse, suffering or euthanasia through rescue and permanent placement and/or attention to their medical, nutritional and shelter needs. A critical aspect of the mission is to promote spaying, neutering and education in hopes of alleviating pet overpopulation.

We have developed working relationships with local animal control officers, humane shelter administrators and veterinarians who contact us about animals in desperate situations. Many of these animals may be readily adoptable but face euthanasia due to space limitations at the facilities. Through daily networking with other rescuers and no-kill shelters we arrange for permanent adoption of these rescued animals. If the rescued animal requires interim medical attention, vaccinations (required by licensed receiving facilities) or spaying/neutering, those needs are also seen to.

In support of these efforts we drive approximately 500 miles weekly transporting our own rescues as well as those of other rescue groups as part of interstate transports. The destination of these transports are no-kill shelters, breed rescue groups and adoption facilities in the Chicago area, Wisconsin and even Minnesota. We also spend many hours each week helping to coordinate rescuers driving the numerous legs of these transports.

An equally important aspect of our mission is assistance to the pets of economically disadvantaged owners who often suffer neglect due to their owner’s situation. As we become aware of these situations we work to ensure that adequate food, shelter and veterinary care are provided, including spaying and neutering if needed. Efforts are also made to educate the owner concerning the animal’s needs and the consequences of uncontrolled breeding and overpopulation.

Since pet overpopulation is the root cause of many of these issues, a major goal is to work toward providing a low-cost or free spay and neuter program.
